Chicago Day 1

I'm going to try to do one post a day this week so I can tell you all about our fun mini-vacation.  We left BG Wednesday morning after Emma ate.  She was really good in the car and took 2 short naps on the way up.  We stopped at a mall in Franklin, IN to eat at Johnny Rockets.  Emma has gotten so picky that it's hard to find a place to eat that will have anything for her.  But she enjoyed her hot dog, and we had brought along some milk, applesauce and snacks.  We did a little bit of shopping and got a souvenir for the dogs.  Then we hit the road again.  Indiana is pretty boring to drive through, except for the part that has literally hundreds of wind turbines.  It was pretty weird to see along the sides of the interstate.  We finally made it to Chicago around 4:00, and checked in to our hotel.  We wanted to walk around a little and get something to eat, so we walked to Rainforest Cafe.  It was several blocks away.  Emma seemed to like it.  She didn't get scared and was intrigued by the fake elephants.  She didn't eat much, but she did drink out of a real straw for the first time.  We were so excited!  She sipped water from a regular grown up cup with a straw.  She was so proud of herself.  So we bought her a straw cup from the shop that she took everywhere with her.  It came in very handy later in the week.  It's funny how simple things like that make us so proud...she's growing up so fast.  We got back to the hotel pretty late (late for Emma, which was after 8:00), so we put her right to bed.  We were pretty tired too.  Here are some pictures from our first day in Chicago.
