Progress

Emma and I are both making some progress.  My Couch to 5k is going pretty well.  I've last 3 pounds since last week.  I ran/walked Monday and Wednesday, lifted weights Tuesday and Thursday, walked 2.5 miles Thursday, and walked the March for Babies Saturday, which was 3.5 miles.  I did skip my C25k run Friday though.  I'm not very motivated, but I always feel better after I'm done.  My real problem is my eating habits...specifically sweets.  Last week I had 4 blizzards.  Seriously.  I bought a box of Swiss Cake thingies yesterday and they're all gone.  I got a bag of Oreos at the grocery to use in a recipe, but I ate them instead.  The new golden Oreos?  I LOVE THEM.  I'd probably lose about 20 pounds if I could just curb my sweet tooth.  So, from now on, I'm not buying dessert at the grocery (although I might buy pudding, because surely that can't count).  And I'm going to to try to limit my ice cream runs to once a week.  Sigh.

As for Emma, her reflux has been 200 times better this week.  She still spits up some at night between dinner and bedtime, but during the day there is almost NONE.  She's been on the Culturelle probiotics for a week or two now, so maybe that's helping.  We have enough Nexium to get her through my birthday...after that, we're going to stop giving it to her and see what happens.  Fingers crossed.  She has been so fun lately.  We've run lots of errands and she loves staring at people.  She loves being the center of attention.  Well, she loves it as long as she's with me.  She's still very wary of strangers, and doesn't like anyone else to hold her.  This separation / stranger anxiety phase has been very difficult, and I'll be glad when it's over.  But I'm very thankful that we seem to have gotten her allergies and for the most part, her reflux, under control.  She's much happier and a lot of fun to be around.  I absolutely cannot believe my baby will be one next month.  She has changed so much in the past year, and I wish the time would slow down.  As much as I hate her being so needy and whiny anytime I'm out of her sight, I'm trying to not take this time for granted.  I know there will come a time when she doesn't want anything to do with me, so I'm enjoying being her favorite person.

So, that is the progress we are making.  Next up:  cutting out (most of) the sweets and trying some new recipes that are baby friendly.  It's time for Emma to start eating what we eat, although it will be a little difficult finding recipes with no dairy or wheat.

Fab 5 Friday

I have been bad about keeping up with this lately, but I'm here today!

1.  Nikon D60 -

I may have already used this one, but either way, I love my camera.  It's the first DSLR I've had, and it's so much better than my point and shoots.  It's a little bulky to carry around, but the pictures are so worth it.

2.  Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Autofocus Lens

I just got this zoom lens today (Nick' gift for my birthday), and I'm so excited.  I can't wait to take close up pictures of Chipper!

3.  Swagbucks - I don't even use this as much as I should, but I've already been able to redeem 3 or 4 Amazon gift cards, just for searching the internet like I would anyway.  I don't like it as much as Google, but I like free stuff!

4.  Seventh Generation -

I love their cleaning products!  And I've been able to print out several coupons, so I'm stocking up.  I'm trying to start buying cleaning products that are as natural as possible, since I have little hands and feet (and often a little mouth) on everything.  Toys R Us usually has these either at B1G1 50% off or certain items on clearance.  Last week I got a box of dishwasher detergent for $.98.

5.  Hawaii Magazine -

I subscribed to this magazine a few months ago, and I love getting it in the mail.  It's probably going to be a while before we can go back to Hawaii, but the pictures and articles in here at least give me a glimpse.  I love Hawaii.

Fab 5 Friday

Yay, I'm actually doing it on time this week!

1.  Bare Escentuals Mineral Veil - I just ordered this and I love it.  I've tried many different kinds of foundations, tinted moisturizers, etc., but they all make my face break out.  I also ordered a mineral tinted moisturizer (Jane Iredale), but I haven't tried it yet.  So far, I've just used the mineral veil by itself.  No break outs and it looks halfway decent!

2.  Jon Scheyer - I love my Blue Devils.  Nick's whole family is all about UK, so I'll have a fun time at family get-togethers this year!  Jon Scheyer was my favorite player this year.

3.  Rain - Ha, this one is kind of silly.  It's been so sunny and warm lately.  Which is great and all, but terrible for the allergies (and also this bug hater, because the wasps have been crazy around here).  Emma has been crazy irritable lately, but yesterday she was so good.  The rain helped her allergies a lot.  Unfortunately, there's no more rain in the forecast for the next 7 days.  Something you will not see on this list:  Claritin.  It's doing nothing for her.

4.  Munchkin Sippy Cup - We love this cup (by we, I mean the only one who matters, Emma).  I've had a hard time getting her to drink from other sippy cups.  BUT...we have successfully transitioned all of her liquid feedings to these cups!  I have put away the Dr. Browns, and rediscovered the section of my counter that had been covered with the bottle rack.

5.  PBS Kids - I do attempt to be a good mother by limiting Emma's tv time.  I've gotten a lot better at not leaving the tv on all day long, because that's supposed to be terrible for kids or something.  Although when I was growing up, I don't ever remember being home without the tv on, and I think my vocab is just fine.  But, we do have tv time in the morning.  We watch Sesame Street, and occasionally Curious George.  I've yet to let her watch Barney, but mostly because I HATE that stupid purple dinosaur.  My sister used to watch it all.the.time and I have never recovered.  However, Emma loves the Barney commercials, so I might have to give in someday.  Or not.  I do like PBS, because I don't feel so incredibly guilty for letting Emma watch it.  And their website has some fun Elmo videos and activities.

Easter 2010

New Developments

This is what we've been up to:

Standing!  She's still shaky and won't take a step yet, but she's standing with support.  Our next new development:

No more bottles!  We've finally switched over to the sippy cup.  It's a trainer cup, so we've still got to get her over to a regular sippy cup, then a regular cup, then a straw, but I thought we'd never get her off her bottle.  Dr. Brown has been Emma's best friend for months.  I won't know what to do with myself...no more bottles to wash!

We've also discovered that Emma has allergies...not a big surprise.  She's started taking Claritin.  She's been so fussy.  Her top teeth still haven't come in yet, so that's still painful I'm sure.  Will all her teeth EVER come in?

Fab 5 Friday

So I've been a very unfaithful blogger.  I've missed the past two Friday's.  Emma has been...let's just say, high maintenance.  She's been irritable for the last couple of weeks.  On Tuesday, she started sneezing and had runny nose.  She either has a cold or allergies...I'm leaning toward allergies.  We're starting Claritin tomorrow, so hopefully that will help.  We put her back in the church nursery Sunday, and she seems to always get sick after that.  I wish people wouldn't bring their sick babies to the nursery.  We waited until March, almost April, to bring her, thinking cold and flu season would be over.  Anyway, maybe the Claritin will help with her allergies, which should make her a little more resistant to catching so many respiratory bugs.

It's amazing how well she stands.  We were worried that she would never put weight on her legs, and suddenly she wants to stand all the time.  She attempted to cruise along the couch today, but she only moved her hands and upper body.  She's still a little too scared to move her feet.  Still no crawling, but I'm not sure she's ever going to crawl.  On the one hand, I'll be happy when she starts walking.  She's so curious right now and she wants to be able to see everything, but physically she's just not able to yet.  It frustrates her to no end.  So hopefully walking will help with that.  BUT...I know than walking will open a door to a whole new world of troubles.  So I'm trying to enjoy this time while it lasts.  But she's just so darn whiny!

We are going to Destin in October.  It seems like such a long time away, but it's the offseason so therefore cheaper.  And we're staying in a house, so I'm excited.  Not a condo with people all around us.  Nick and I are hoping to take a small vacation (more like a long weekend) with just the three of us before then.  I'm thinking about Cincinnati...we can see the Braves, go to the zoo, and shop at Ikea and the GAP Outlet.

So that's it with the update.  I'm hopeful that things will return to normal, and Emma will get back to her fun happy self soon.  She's a pitiful little thing when she's sick.  Now for my Fab 5.

1.  DUKE Blue Devils!

Duke hasn't been to the Final Four since 2004, which was the year Nick and I started dating.  I remember watching them play in Nick's dorm room.  I'm so happy to have a team in the Final Four, but if they lose, I'll be cheering for Butler.

2.  Homemade Baby Food

I love that Emma is eating homemade food.  We've obviously given her a few store bought foods (she loves Cheerios), but her main diet consists of homemade fruits, veggies and soon, meats.  I feel good that we're saving some money, and I have no concerns about what is in her food.  She loves all her foods, which I'm hoping will continue.  I know some babies start getting picky around this age.

3.  Daffodils

I saw so many of these last year, and think they're so pretty.  This year I bought some to plant some in our yard.  I also got some red and white tulips, and some cute blue flowers.  We're going to plant them tomorrow.  I love fixing our landscaping every spring, but wish we could keep it looking nice throughout the year.

4.  Mint Oreo Blizzard

I love these!  In fact, Nick went to get me one right now.  I also love the Thin Mint Blizzard, but they don't have those year round.  I am terribly addicted to blizzards.  I have to stop.

5.  Opening Day

MLB Opening Day is almost here!  The Braves have had a good spring, which usually means a bad season.  Actually spring training means nothing.  But I love the hopefulness of the beginning of a new season.  From now until at least the All Star break, I can be optimistic about my Braves.
