Power

We are having electricity issues here at work. I'm really wishing it would just go out already so we could go home and have a 4 day weekend. But I am probably not that lucky. It flickered several times this morning, the phones went out, and it seems that the air is not on. And apparently the top of the hill had no power. I'm all about sitting in a 90 degree office all day. Anyway, I'm just trying to get through today. So I can get to the weekend, which will be over in what seems like a second. Funny how that works. The Braves are playing the Mets this weekend...big series. Unless we lose it and then it really was a big series, because we'll be completely out of it. Ugh.

3 Day Weekend

I'm very excited for the 3 day weekend. And also for no boss today! Although it's better when I know ahead of time...otherwise it makes me nervous and I have to look busy. Which is hard when there's nothing much to be doing. But now I can totally finish reading the Dave Ramsey book and balance my checkbook.

Sunday is my and Nick's 3 month anniversary (although technically we have been married for 12 weeks since last Saturday, but whatever). I want to plan something fun, but I have no idea what that might be. Also, we're trying REALLY hard to stick to our budget, so I don't want to blow a ton of money. There have to be free things to do that are still fun, right? No? Ok.

We got invited to a wedding in Gatlinburg next month. I've always wanted to go to a wedding at one of their many chapels, so I'm excited. Actually by the time of my wedding, I was pretty much wanting to get married there myself. But anyway, hopefully we can use our free two night timeshare thing for that.

Bloggers

I don't understand why I can't be one of those people who sit at home all day and blog for a living. How do you make money doing that anyway? I can look at pictures and make fun of famous people too. And be really random. Or take pictures of gross looking food and post them. What the heck am I still doing at an actual job? How do I get into that?

Blah

Obviously it was time for another one of my blah moments about my job. I had decided a week or so ago to just get through it, because the hours are (mostly) good, the pay is decent (ok that might not be true) and the benefits are very good. Plus I love getting my season tickets for free, because they're freaking expensive to buy. And Nick and I are doing this Financial Peace thing and with the incomes we have, our budget will actually allow us some room...to save and to also do fun things! So me quitting will have a big impact on that, and even if I got another job immediately, it probably wouldn't pay as much, at least not for a while. So I'm conflicted about what to do...again. But who's tired of listening to me complain about my job? Even I am.

Nick and I watched The Hills last night (not because he likes it, just because I forced him to). It might possibly be the stupidest show ever. Laguna Beach wasn't like Emmy-quality or anything, but the people on the Hills are so obviously faking it. Heidi and Spencer make me gag. But I also watched My Boys on TBS, and it's pretty good. This was after TBS reran the season finale of Friends, which even though it was less than I had hoped for at the time, makes me cry. Wow we have exciting evenings.

I'm leaving at noon today to go to Cincinnati with my dad. To see the Braves. The crappy Braves. But whatever, it's better than being at work. And tomorrow, I'm not coming in until 12:30, so I can sleep late (since we won't get back until late). My boss is probably mad about it, but oh well. They're my vacation days.

I'm actually pretty bored at work right now. I've done pretty much all I had to do. That happens a lot...I need to be a slower worker I guess.

Boring

So I have been researching the Mormon religion lately...not sure exactly why. I think it's actually pretty interesting, especially since our denomination (Baptist) seems to think of it as less of a religion and more of a cult. That's coming from the Southern Baptist Convention anyway...and I tend to not always agree with their ideology. I love my church and how contemporary it is, but sometimes it's pretty conservative also. I never knew anyone who was Mormon until I met Nick. He has some Mormon friends, so in the course of our relationship I've gotten to know them a little. And honestly, they are the most "religious" people I know. The guys go on their 2 year missions, which puts them behind in college (and seems kind of crazy to the rest of us...but from what they say, it's a really cool experience). And the ones I know are very involved with church, really live out their principles (what they eat, their actions, etc). I know that being a Christian is not all about actions, but based on faith, but I have a hard time categorizing these people as "pagans." But when Nick went to Discovering Hope, apparently the guy teaching it made some remark about how us Baptists don't even recognize the Church of Latter Day Saints. They believe in Jesus, teach the Bible, and preach that Jesus is the only way to God...and isn't that supposed to be the central tenet to our faith?

So that is why I'm trying to do some research. Nick thinks the only difference is that Mormons believe that Jesus talked to the Indians (over 3 years ago he heard that and he's still amazed by it). But there's so much crap on the internet that I really have no idea what is true and what is not. I think if I were in school and had a project, I would like to interview some Mormons.

Also, on a side note, I am beginning to realize why people say the first year of marriage is the hardest. Nick and I were raised very differently, and we have different expectations. Also, our communication styles are often the cause of conflict and not peaceful discourse. Why I'm using big words, I don't know. But I'm looking forward to being 50 and having been married for 25 years and having kids and finally knowing that we have figured out the marriage thing and each other. I look at couples who have been together for a long time, and they seem so happy. Not to say they don't have issues, but they know each other well enough to know the best way to deal with them. The couple that leads our ABF is a good example. They apparently haven't had an argument in years. Not b/c they agree on everything, but b/c they've worked out a communication style that works for them. So I'm looking forward to that. And also having kids. If having a dog has bonded us as much as it has, I can't wait to have kids with him.

Today is my last day of somewhat freedom at work. Although I think most of tomorrow will be ok too. And then Thursday I'm taking the afternoon off to go to the Braves game in Cincinnati. Hopefully it will be like last night (14-4).

So at the end of this week, Nick and I are going to start trying the Dave Ramsey envelope system and completely living on a budget. My type of budgeting has mostly been to record what I spend after I spend it (which sounds bad, but I'm actually pretty organized and color-coded about it). But now we actually have a monthly plan for our money, broken down into weekly allocation plans as well. Sounds pretty boring. But we get to include money in there to Blow on each of us, and also some for eating out and movies or whatever. And with the plan, I will have my student loans paid off in 3 years! That's a lot of money to pay off in 3 years. So hopefully we'll be able to stick with it.

Anyway, I have a feeling that I'm going to be very bored at work today. So it's a good thing I brought my magazines:-)

Probably because I can't sing so much....but still. I didn't really get the whole YouTube phenomenon, but this weekend Nick and I watched some videos on it. We got to see our hotels in Maui, and some funny videos of shih-tzus swimming. Which is probably funnier to me than anyone reading this, b/c we've often thought about what Izzy would do if we put her in the pool. And this is one of my favorites, even if it does make me sad.

Anyway, my weekend was pretty uneventful. Friday was our date night. I came out of work Friday afternoon and Nick had typed up a note and snuck it in my car, so that was sweet. He's getting better at that kind of stuff. Although I think I need to work a little harder at it.

Anyway, hopefully work will be ok this week. I'm going to Cincinnati on Thursday to see the Braves!

Finally Friday

Is it just me or is that the title to my posts every Friday? Oh well, I love my weekends. Especially ones like this weekend, when I have NOTHING planned! Yay:-) I might actually get to sleep in tomorrow, although probably not, because my headaches while lying down have returned. And no amount of Excedrin will help (b/c I'm definitely eating it like candy at this point). But anyway, it's ok b/c even a headache is better when I'm not at work.

One of Nick's friends just had a baby, and he's this huge Western fan, so I'm kind of excited about getting a baby present for them. I'm going to go to the bookstore and buy something WKU-y, and have it monogrammed at that new place in the mall. I would totally be a cool aunt (although I think it's probably different when it's your kid, which is why I hesitate to say I'd be a cool mom), although I'm hoping I don't become an aunt until I'm pushing 40 at least.

The Braves!

The Braves beat the Mets last night, so we gained a game! And they're on tv tonight and tomorrow night. If I don't get a Tim Hudson autographed baseball from someone for Christmas, I am going to be pissed. Not really, but I do want one. So I'll have to get Nick to pass on that hint to his parents perhaps. Last night Nick and I watched Inn Love on Oxygen. It might be the stupidest show ever, but also funny. Tori Spelling thought her baby was dead daily (from sex one night, strangled by the cord the next, dying on the way to the hospital because all her fluid was leaking and he was banging against her insides in the car). And she panicked when her contractions were 50 minutes apart. Not that I won't probably panic too, but still. Don't you even watch enough tv to know that the baby's not coming when you have one contraction an hour? And it didn't come until days later. But her husband is way nicer than she deserves...he's the most patient person I've ever seen. But he always knows he's on tv, so he's quite possibly faking it. And also, he left his normal life of living the middle class life to marry Tori Spelling, raise her child, and possibly be not only famous but rich. So he kind of has to be nice to her.

Anyway, tonight I think Nick and I are going to Zaxby's to eat. We went to Puerto's Sunday. Before that it had been over a month since we had eaten out. Living on a budget sucks!

Only Tuesday

So let me tell you about my day so far (because it's not even 8:00am yet). My boss had a meeting today, for which I had to get coffee and food. The meeting was at 7:30am, and since I have this awful fear of being late (blame my mother, who never got anywhere on time), I left my house at 6:45, which of course means I had to wake up early. But I did all that and did get to work early. My boss? Didn't show. And I'm pretty sure I'm somehow going to get blamed when he does show (because that's my job, right? To be his personal calendar?). Not only that, but I had to pay for the food myself and get reimbursed, which usually takes about a month. The food that no one ate. So that's my day so far. And I'm sure it will only get better. Although I'm not totally sure that it could get worse than yesterday, which mostly confirmed what I thought all along.

25. Do you own property? I sorta own my car (it's paid off at least). My husband owns his truck (well after 2 more payments), so it's technically half mine now. And we will own a house in about 29 more years (actually longer because we'll sell this one way before then)
