Lots of News

I haven't posted in a really long time. The wireless internet still doesn't work at home. And things have been kind of busy. This past Sunday was my first Mother's Day. Unless you count the dogs, who I do. But most people don't. I did get a nice card from them this year, and also from Nick and Emma. Also I got some pretty irises and candy. We went to Mariah's and then took the dogs to the dog park. Nick doesn't really like the dog park, but I do. And it wasn't raining, amazingly enough. We met another couple from our ABF class, but there were lots of other people there too. The dogs had lots of friends to play with. The weekend before that, Nick planned out a date for the two of us in Nashville. Nick usually doesn't plan much, so it was a surprise. He made reservations at Maggiano's (which was good because it was prom), and then we went to a movie. He also gave me a bracelet. So far, it has one heart charm with Emma's name engraved on it. It will cool to add to it. Nick picked it out and had it engraved all by himself. Without me finding out. So that was our last little trip/date night before Emma is here.

As for Emma, we have had an exciting past week. We went to the doctor last Thursday, and everything was ok. Emma's heartbeat was good, which it has always been. I was 1 cm dilated. Nick was convinced that her head was high, near the top of my uterus. I was hoping it was the other end of her that we were feeling. Apparently not. She's breech. The dr. sent us for an ultrasound, just to confirm, which it did. At the u/s, the technician told us the amnoitic fluid was lower than the dr. liked. She couldn't really tell us anything more than that, so we left not really knowing what was going on. On the way home, I got a call from the tech and also the dr. Long story short, we were scheduled for weekly biophysical profiles (which is an u/s they do to look at and score certain features) and told to go to Labor & Delivery for a nonstress test. We did and Emma was fine. Today we went back for the u/s and dr's visit. Apparently the fluid still scores low according to the Amnoitic Fluid Index, but it's actually because my fluid isn't located in the correct places. So there is enough, which is a relief. I ate donuts before the appt, so Emma was moving a lot when we got there. They allot 30 minutes for the profile, and we were done in less than 8. We could see her taking practice breaths, and opening and closing her hands. It was pretty cool. She seems to be healthy as can be. But she is still breech. So they have scheduled us for a c-section on Wednesday at 7:30am. The idea of a c-section is scary to me, and not something I really thought much about until recently. But I'm also ready to meet Emma, and to not be pregnant. And if this is how she needs to be born, then there is some reason for it. Maybe God doesn't think I could handle labor! So Emma's birthday will be May 20th. I am excited to meet her, but nervous. I wasn't nervous until now. Nick will be off with me for a couple of weeks, so that will be nice. He's very excited, and apparently thinks it will be just like the dogs. Just something else to play with. Thank goodness I was so anal about getting everything done early, even though it still feels like we have a million things to do. The nursery is ready, diapers are there, bags are packed and in the car, car seat installed. My last day of work is tomorrow, so I'll be off Monday and Tuesday to take care of everything else. Or sleep.

Anyway, I wanted to update, since I hadn't in so long. Hopefully we'll have pictures up by Wednesday night, although that will probably be up to Nick. My birthday is this Saturday, and Mikaela's is the 29th. She's excited about some Scrabble game for PS2, so she has low expectations for her b-day. She will love my present. And June 2nd is our 2 year wedding anniversary. Nick says we should plan this better next time...May is too busy.
